Swamp Terminators by Warpvermine Swamp Terminators by Warpvermine
Initially I had plans to simply make these Plague Terminators appear big, fat and bulky - I Converted the Lord first (the one with the Corpse-Banner) and Seeing how pleasing he ended up, I went and made the rest of the squad! Modeling and painting these guys took me about two weeks, on and off.

The paintjob was tricky seeing as I had modeled them to appear truly filthy, I knew I'd end up with a simple naturalistic scheme in the end - The dark metal/rust complemented to dull, decayed nd bloated armour well, but there was something missing - That's when I added the static grass from the hero basing kits I had. I think that the static grass is the one thing that they needed to truly have that ''swamp'' feel to them, and though it contrasts the armour it doesn't some out as too much of a dominant theme.

I've got plans to make a couple of Plaguemarine squads in this new ''swamp'' scheme, so with any luck you'll be seeing them soon, too.

Nice! Love the top left of the six; so heavy, and those horns are great too. Really evocative.

Seriously? I like his stance - I think that's the best thing about him, he looks as if he's really calculating his aim - But the one thing I dislike about him is the bandages on his chest, which I think I could (and should) have done a lot better.

very good done, this almost immobile but massive look... this would look great in an army!

They certainly do! All I did was throw glue and dirt at them really, and the painting was just as easy as everything else - Hence the reason why I'm so bored of Painting Nurgle after 10,000 points of drybrushing!

I'm not sure why I thought of this, but after I painted these I had a funny thought of a scenario where some bloke walking his dog next to a calm swamp, when these big buggers stumble all, all pissed off and such - hence the reason for the name, and such!

God those things look filthy. I LOVE IT.
Your nurgle colors are incredible. And I like the things you did with greenstuff here.
I'm still not sure if I'm doing just nurgle marines or sticking to just the Purge (Small legion that barely gets mentioned)

The Purge... Aren't they the Nurgle dudes with black armour? I think I did a one-off with one of those in one of my squads.

From everything I've seen they are a green/black with either boltgun metal or gold trim. Their symbol is also three flies. I like the look of them. I'll still be painting a lot of things proper nurgle, but the elites will be painted like the Purge. Just got some word bearers done last night :p

Word bearers are awesome, fluff wise especially! I think I remember the purge a bit better now, I don't think I'd include them en masse in my force, the colour scheme's far too ''clean'' for my liking.

I'm going to stop taking that Khorne weapon, ugh. Too many times has it killed me. My nurgle lord will either have a force weapon to play it safe, or if I'm feeling manly he can always have a trusty daemon weapon :p
That's sort of why I like the purge. The elites and higher ups being more clean in appearance, leading the shambling masses of other nurgle marines.

I try not to glorify my elites above others, and I'd have thought that the more of a shmbler you are, the more faithful you were to Nurgle? I don't really beleive in clean schemes, possibly 'cus I'm just not patient enough to churn one out en masse. Still, it'll be good to see someone elses take on the Purge.

We will see how mine will turn out. I just sorta fell in love with them and their colors since I saw them in the codex (The only fluff I can find says they just hate ALL life in the galaxy and participated in a MASSIVE genocide...sounds pretty badass to me!)
I can only hope I can paint proper, disgusting Nurgle As well :/

True, the fluff is pretty awesome on them - Nothing wrong with the occasional genocide I say!

Weirdly enough I'm working on some more terminators today, but They're going to be Rusty Iron Warriors, not in the swamp theme.

It was a last minute thing making them furry/grassy - I spilt some static grass and I just came up with the idea.

well with goblins, they were known for not building their own armour but collecting it from the ground

Aaaaah... Well fluff wise I'd have said that everything I have is essentially a scavenger, as they're too busy lingering in muddy pools and shooting each other to build factories and make their own armour.

Patches and bandages are a common sight on Plague-stuff and they're easy make, but the mossy-fuzzy stuff was at first an accident.

Woh, i like it :P They look like thev just crawked out of the ground. Do they match ur terrain? N gloss varnish gives a good sticky look

Aaaah... I hadn't considered varnish! I wanted them to look as if they'd crawled out of the ground, so I think I've done it right.

I'll most likely do a ''redux'' version of this deviation 'cus when I do my next squad of terminators I can easily retouch these guys with some gloss varnish and some more greenstuffing.

Good work. There's definately no mistaking which diety they worship.

The thick bloated bodied fit well with the swamp scheme simce they look like they've been rotting underwater.

My only real qualm is that the modeling putty on the bottom right one doesn't seem as finished as the rest.

You're absolutely right - This one was annoying me a little, and I was going to get it patched up BUT the greenstuff I ordered a month ago still hasn't arrived, so I'll get him sorted when/if it arrives! I don't think that anything I do is entirely perfect 'cus for the most I'm a very lazy person when it comes to getting things 100% right, but no doubt the sheer stature of these fat gits makes up for the little errors here and there.
